Graduates of the Horticultural Science major gain a deep understanding of cropping systems, basic plant science, and molecular biology. This is a generalized program covering horticultural crop growth and development that can then be flexibly tailored to suit each student’s interests. As part of their studies, Horticultural Science students will study genetics, crop nutrition, plant physiology, chemistry, physics, entomology, nematology, soils and water.

A variety of career options are available after graduation, including commodity production and management, research biologist, marketing, agricultural chemical sales, fertilizer sales, produce buyer for supermarkets or restaurants, and retail flower sales.
